White Center Co-op Parents, this is YOUR school as much as it is your child’s school!
As White Center Co-op Parents, why is parent involvement so important to us?
(Besides being a fun place to hang out, meet your child’s friends, make friends of your own…)
There are decades of research showing the positive effect of parents being active participants in their child’s education:
- The earlier in a child’s educational process parent involvement begins, the more powerful the effects. Cotton, K., Wikelund, K., Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, School Improvement Research Series in Parent Involvement in Education.
- Family participation in education was twice as predictive of students’ academic success as family socioeconomic status. Walberg (1984) in his review of 29 studies of school–parent programs.
- The most consistent predictors of children’s academic achievement and social adjustment are parent expectations of the child’s academic attainment and satisfaction with their child’s education at school. Reynolds, et, al.,
How is “parent involvement” defined?
Joyce Epstein of Johns Hopkins University has developed a framework for defining different types of parent involvement.
Your Co-op Preschool includes them all:
Parenting, Communicating, Volunteering, Inclusion in Decision Making, Learning at Home, Collaborating with the Community
Your child will thank you….some day….
